These picks come from research, not hands-on testing. We compared weight and packed size, durability and weather resistance, comfort and ease of setup, features for the campsite, and warranty and value, using Amazon listing details plus star averages and rating counts. Only chairs with a table built into the frame counted; clip-on trays were left out.

Size & form factor

• Oversized: Wider seats, like the GCI XL.
• Heavy duty: Steel frames rated 300 to 400 lbs.
• Lightweight: Around 10 lbs or less.
• Compact: Flat-folding frames that fit the trunk.
• Low: Beach-height seats, rarely with tables.
• High back: Supports your head and shoulders.
• Double: Loveseats for two.
• Kids: Smaller frames, usually without tables.

Type

• Folding: Director-style chairs, the most common type with side tables.
• Ultralight: Pole chairs with no room for a table; see our best lightweight camping chair guide.
• Rocking: Spring rockers like the GCI; more in our best rocking camping chair list.
• Reclining: Adjustable backs for lounging.
• Zero gravity: Full recliners, often with clip-on trays.
• Backpacking: Too light for a table.
• Beach: Low and wide.
• Heated: Battery-heated pads.
• Director: Tall, upright, the classic side-table design.
• Swinging: Hanging seats on a stand.

Features worth paying for

• Cup holder: Built into most side tables.
• Footrest: Found on recliners.
• Side table: Keeps food and drinks level and off the ground.
• Canopy: Shade overhead; see our best camping chair with canopy guide.
• Cooler: A small insulated pocket for cans.
• Lumbar support: Worth it for long sits; we found a STRONGBACK director model with lumbar support, but it has no Amazon ratings yet.

Weight vs comfort: car camping or backpacking

Side-table chairs weigh about 10 to 15 lbs, so they are for car camping. If you backpack, choose an ultralight chair and skip the table.

Weather & season ratings

Chairs have no season rating. Mesh backs dry fast after rain, while padded fabric holds water. Wipe steel frames dry to prevent rust.

Setup, packing & storage

Director chairs open and lock in seconds. Fold the table first, then the frame, and store the chair dry in its bag.

Materials, repairs & warranty

Steel frames carry more weight; Oxford polyester resists wear. Warranties vary: KingCamp lists 1 year and GCI a limited lifetime warranty.

How much should you spend?

• Under $30: No chair with a built-in side table sells here; clip-on trays are the workaround.
• Under $50: Director chairs like the KingCamp.
• Under $100: Oversized, mesh and rocking designs from SUNNYFEEL, Coleman and GCI.
• Under $200: Specialty lumbar-support directors.

If you eat, play cards or read in your chair, yes. A camping chair with side table keeps a plate, lantern or phone at arm's reach, and a built-in table does not blow over like a separate one. The Coleman Outpost Elite is another option with a side table and cup holder, well rated by buyers, with thousands of ratings.

For bad backs, look for a firm, upright director seat and a higher backrest, and ask your doctor what support you need.

What is the best camping chair with side table?

The SUNNYFEEL Oversized Directors Chair is the best camping chair with side table for most people. It pairs a steel frame rated to 300 lbs with a side table, phone holder and pockets, packs to 20 x 19 x 5 in, and is highly rated by buyers, with thousands of ratings.

Is a camping chair with side table worth it?

For car campers, yes. The table keeps drinks and food off the ground, and you have one less item to pack. The trade-off is a few extra pounds and a wider folded chair, which matter only if you carry gear far from the car.

How long does a camping chair last?

No official lifespan figure is published. A chair's life depends on frame joints, fabric seams and how it is stored. Keep it within its weight limit, dry it before packing, and store it out of the sun to slow fabric wear.

Is a camping chair worth it?

Yes. A good chair makes camp meals, campfires and sports sidelines far more comfortable than a log or cooler. Choose a table-side director chair for car camping, or a light pole chair if you hike to camp.

How do you clean a camping chair?

Brush off dirt, then scrub the fabric with mild soap and warm water. Rinse, wipe the frame and table, and let the chair dry fully in the open position before you fold it, to prevent mildew and rust.

What is the most reliable camping chair brand?

Coleman, GCI Outdoor, KingCamp, Helinox and ALPS Mountaineering all have long histories in camp chairs. Reliability depends on frame material, weight rating and care, so pick the chair that fits your size and use.

The SUNNYFEEL Oversized Directors Chair is our pick for the best camping chair with side table, with a built-in table and a huge rating pool. The KingCamp Heavy Duty Directors Chair is the budget choice under $50, and the GCI Freestyle Rocker XL is the premium upgrade. Check price on Amazon and pick your campfire seat.
