The Pros And Cons Of Hammock Camping

One of the most important pieces of camping equipment that you need to prepare before every single one of your trips is a place to sleep at night. You can sleep inside a tent, on a mattress or hammock. Each of these forms has its own pros and cons which you need to consider carefully to make sure you have the most comfortable trip and sleep at night.

My favorite form of camping is hammock camping as I think there are many benefits that hammock camping can bring to my experience. If you donít know much about this type, read on to learn about its pros and cons. In addition, you can click here for more information about the best hammock for camping

Benefits of Hammock Camping

1. It Supports You To Have A Better Sleep

The first benefit that comes to my mind when I think about all the benefits of hammock camping is that it can give me deeper and better sleep at night.

When you go to the camping sites, especially when you go to backpacking sites- it means that you have to walk a long way and obviously, you will be so tired. In addition, all of the outdoor activities you take part in during the day will also wear you out. That is why you need a night of good sleep to recharge all of your energy.

And nothing could help you sleep better than a hammock ñ at least this is my experience. Here are some reasons why I am confident to say so.

First, with the slight moving motions from side to side of the hammock, I feel it much easier to fall asleep. Not to mention that I can now sleep for a long time without waking up as well.

In addition, the hammock is basically hung up on the trees so that you are not in direct contact with the ground. You will feel much warmer when the temperature drops down during the night. Furthermore, you donít have to suffer from the touch and uneven ground below you.

Lastly, it is scientifically proven that a hammock can support the recovery of back pain. So if you have to carry a heavyweight on your back during the day and have back pain, after a night sleeping on a hammock, I am sure that your back will recover and relive.

2. It Is Portable

Another benefit of a hammock is that it is portable and lightweight. Portability and lightweight are 2 important features that you need to consider especially when you have to carry your gear and equipment to your camping site.

A hammock typically doesnít need to have heavy construction and a frame like a tent, which you can easily fold and put inside your backpack. And most of them are of a compact size so you can store them anywhere you want and they surely fit inside the small storage at the back of your car.

Along with the compact size, since it contains no extra frame or anything like that, it is very lightweight. For some people who cannot carry heavy weight a long distance, this benefit is definitely the most important one.

3. Set Up Is Easy

A hammock will not require you to read the instructions and manual books to fully understand how to set up. It is easy to hang it up by the trees without practicing how to do it at first.

4. It Is Cheap

The last benefit of a hammock is that it is relatively cheap. In fact, you have a wide range of prices for hammocks depending on various options such as materials, types, and additional options. If you have a big budget, you can spend a huge amount of money on a really good hammock with a lot of good features and promises to last for a long time.

However, even if you are on a tight budget, you can still buy a hammock of decent quality. My friend once bought a second-hand hammock for the price of 20 dollars and it lasted several camping seasons.

When you compare the price of a camping hammock with other beddings such as tents and mattresses, you will find out that the price of a hammock is much cheaper with the same range of quality and comfort.

So when you donít want to spend a huge amount of money on your camping equipment then a camping hammock is worth considering.

Now letís consider some of the disadvantages of a hammock

1. It Is Not Spacious

The first drawback of a hammock might affect your level of comfort. The thing with a hammock is that it is only suitable for one person to sleep inside. It means that when you go with your family, you guys have to sleep in a separate hammock.

Furthermore, in case you are the type of person who tends to move around a lot while sleeping and want to sleep on flat and solid ground then a hammock is not the best option.

Lastly, you cannot put a lot of your belongings beside you when you sleep- which might worry you about the potential thieves.

2. It Is Less Durable

The life span of a typical hammock is about 2 or 3 years depending on how intensively you use it. This is rather short in comparison with the normal life span of a tent. It is quite understandable since the material and frame of a hammock are designed in a way that is as lightweight and compact as possible.

Here are some of the most common pros and cons of hammock camping that I have experienced after various hammock camping trips. In my opinion, having a hammock at night can help you sleep easily and reduce your back pain. In addition, it is portable and compact- helping you a lot when you pack up. And you donít have to worry much about the cost of a hammock.

On the other hand, a hammock also has certain disadvantages such as the shorter durability and space that it can provide you. However, they are only small drawbacks that are outweighed by all of the good things.

So in case you are looking for camping equipment to sleep at night, this is definitely one of the items that you should take into consideration. I assure you that, if you decide to invest in a high-quality hammock, you will never regret your decision and surely enjoy having it.
